Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known as Eminem, was born on October 17, 1972, in St.

Joseph, Missouri. According to the musician, he has English, Scottish, Swiss, German, and Polish roots. When Marshall was very young, his father left the family and never saw his son again. In search of a better life, Marshall and his mother moved from state to state until they settled in the Eastside of Detroit in 1984.
